Black Creek Land Protection Program
The Black Creek Land Protection Program is conserving forests, fields, and farms in Allegany County to protect drinking water and restore critical wildlife habitat within a Core Area of the WNY Wildway.
The Land Conservancy is partnering with interested landowners in the watershed to permanently protect forests that naturally filter public drinking water for the Village of Angelica and replenish groundwater for residential wells. When protected, these large, intact forests and wetlands will not only support diverse wildlife but also provide space for public outdoor recreation. To learn more about this project click here.
This program is funded by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Water Quality Improvement Project (WQIP) program.

Wildlife Occupancy Study

To better understand wildlife distribution in the region, the Land Conservancy conducted a year-long wildlife study throughout the WNY Wildway project area. Thanks to a grant from The Nature Conservancy we monitored 45 game cameras along roadways and on protected properties, including state parks and forests, to collect vital information on which species are in the area. This allows us to analyze how they move within our region.
Our staff successfully documented over 140 occurrences of Fisher, Black Bear, and Bobcat that will help us determine the most ecologically critical areas in the WNY Wildway. This work was funded, in part, by The Nature Conservancy.
